Music of Summer '17

I'm highlighting new projects that recently dropped. The list includes SZA, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Lorde, & more!

There's so much great music out right now, it's unreal! I don't mean to toot my own horn but BEEP BEEP! I know good music when I hear it and usually within the first 30 seconds. But for my readers, I took a good listen to all of the projects listed... unless 30 seconds passed and I wasn't feeling the track.

Go ahead and check out the list of albums/tracks that recently released:

  • SZA - CTRL
    • Mannnn this has been on repeat since it released. I've always been a fan of SZA and I am so proud of how far she's come! The quality, sound, and lyrics of this album are impeccable. Pure artistry. Must listen for sure.
  • Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.
    • This is for the culture. If you haven't listened to it, I will assume it's intentional and we don't need to be friends.
  • H.E.R. - H.E.R., Vol. 2
    • Perfect follow up to Volume 1. Her voice is amazing. Did you know there's an artist named H.I.M. and their tracks are responses to one another! (Shoutout to Twitter for the info)
  • Bryson Tiller - True to Self
    • Bryson, Bryson, Bryson. He's back at it again. Overall, it was a good album, I just need less samples. I get it's your thing but uhhh let's gets some producers in the studio for some newnessssss Fav: Money Problems
  • Gucci - Droptopwop
    • Gucci came back with a vengeance in the best way possible. Fav: Helplessss
  • DJ Khaled - Grateful
    • All these features and you think I have something negative to say?! Asahd is BLESSED.
  • Party Next Door - Colours 2 - EP
    • I wasn't expecting this to drop but I am not disappointed in these 4 songs.
  • 2 Chainz - Pretty Girls Like Trap Music
    • Favs: Bailan x ISSA VIBE! x 4AM x Door Swangin; Nicki just needs to NOT with Realize lol I respect her but I don't have to like her singing and her constant references to "breaking Aretha records." Good day. The entire album is a bop though.
  • Lorde - Melodrama
    • Don't tell me you forgot Lorde?! The hit single Royals? Yea, that's her. The album has a chill vibe and it complements her as an artist. My favs: Loveless (prob b/c of the bass & it gives me Gwen Stefani + Lily Allen vibes)
  • Jhene Aiko feat. Chris Brown - Hello Ego
    • How can you go wrong with the soulful voice of Jhene? + We all know anything Christopher is featured on is an automatic hit.
  • Drake - Signs
    • Typical Drake + Island/Afrobeat. Eh but you know everyone will dance to included.
  • Cardi B - Bodak Yellow
    •  She definitely should've been on the 2017 Freshman Class XXL Cover, but I digress.
  • Gucci feat. Chris Brown - Tone it Down
    • This will do numbers like Party, quote me. Summer Hit.

All in all, Summer 17 debuted some great projects! It's a great time for music.
